This full day (8 hour) workshop is a compulsory, combined Midwifery Emergency skills workshop including Maternal and Neonatal Resuscitation training. The workshop is a requirement of New Zealand Midwifery Council for midwives recertification to hold a current APC (annual practising certificate). Also it is an organisational requirement for all midwives to attend this annual workshop.
- Two hours each is given to Maternal and Newborn Resuscitation with practical hands-on training.
- Midwifery emergency skills covered e.g. Postpartum Haemorrhage, Shoulder Dystocia, Unexpected Breech presentation in labour, Cord Prolapse.
The workshop includes various activities such as scenario discussions, simulation, revisiting theory and guidelines to enhance the midwives knowledge and skills if faced with managing any of these emergencies, especially in a primary setting with no doctors present.
