Password Reset

Please carefully read the instructions below to reset your password:

  1. Click on the 'Lost Password' link under the login box on the healthLearn login page (www.healthLearn.ac.nz)
  2. Enter your email address in the second box (not your username in the first box) that you registered with, then click search. Result: If you have a valid account and entered a correct email address, you will be sent an email to that registered email address with a link to generate a new password.
  3. Sign into your email account, open the email then click on the link to reset your password. Click save changes.  Result: You have successfully changed your password and are logged in

NB: If you do not receive an email, first check your SPAM/Junk Mail.  If it's not there, you may have entered an incorrect email address (repeat the steps above) or contact your SuperUser (Click HERE for a list of contacts).

Note: Many Health New Zealand employees now have a district email address and a tewhatuora.govt.nz email address – if you are not sure which to use, please try both.

Passphrases and password requirements

The password requirements were updated by Health New Zealand in 2026 to improve the security of your account. A passphrase is a short sentence or group of words. A few random words strung together to make a phrase will help you make longer passwords.  Choose a passphrase that is long, personal, and easy to remember but hard for others to guess.

  • Minimum passphrase length: 16 characters

  • Passphrase history: you cannot reuse any of your last 24 passphrases

  • Passphrase expiry: moving to annual expiry

Any other tips?

  • Use a string of words rather than a single word

  • Change a letter to a symbol or number

  • Add a number or symbol in the middle

  • Example passphrases: summerWild4birds e.g.  dreamcookiebaker
